Productive Week of Meetings in Chengdu Lays Foundation for TWG 2025

A week of productive meetings has just concluded in Chengdu, China on 27 October, marking a significant milestone in preparations for The World Games 2025, set to take place from 7-17 August 2025.

 

With no more than 300 days remaining, this series of working and preparatory meetings was essential to finetuning logistics for various stakeholders, ensuring the success of the event.

 

 

The key meetings held in Chengdu were as follows:

 

- 23-24 October: 2nd Competition Manager Meeting

- 25-26 October: NOCs-NSOs Meeting

- 26 October: Coordination Committee (CoCom) Meeting

- 27 October: Executive Committee Meeting (ExCo)

 

Participants included a total of over 270 delegates, including 42 Competition Managers representing International Federations, as well as representatives from 31 National Olympic Committees and National Sport Organisations from 17 countries/regions, Chinese Olympic Committee representative, IWGA partners, IWGA Executive Committee Members, staff and LOC officials and staff. The meetings took place in the InterContinental Century City in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, the renowned home of the giant panda, and the future host city of The World Games 2025.

 

 

Key meeting highlights and items discussed:

 

- Technical discussions on competition management

- Venue tours and site inspections of key locations, including TWG Plaza and the two TWG Villages

- Venue operations planning

- Transportation logistics

- Registration and Accreditation procedures

- Broadcasting and production updates

- Results and scoring system

- Updates on the inaugural edition of the TWG Series in Hong Kong

- Progress on the upcoming elections for the IWGA Athletes’ Committee

- Anti-Doping reports

 

The recruitment for the volunteer programme was also officially launched this week. The programme will bring together thousands of dedicated individuals who share our passion for sport and wish to be part of an important legacy for the city of Chengdu and Sichuan Province.

 

Athletes at the Heart

 

The athletes’ well-being and experience were given top priority, with every effort dedicated to providing them with the best possible global stage. They are at the very heart of the show, ensuring they feel celebrated and supported at every moment.

 

These gatherings served not only as technical meetings but also as opportunities to exchange ideas, build stronger collaborations, and reaffirm the commitment to delivering an unforgettable experience for athletes, spectators, and all stakeholders involved in August 2025.

 

 

IWGA President José Perurena remarked, “These meetings are crucial steps in ensuring that every aspect of The World Games 2025 is planned to perfection. Chengdu is demonstrating its readiness to host a world-class event that will inspire athletes and fans all around the world.”

 

IWGA CEO Joachim Gossow said, “We are very much pleased with the progress made over the past week. The collaboration between the International Federations, NOCs-NSOs, and the Local Organising Committee has been outstanding, and we are confident that Chengdu will host one of the most memorable editions of The World Games.”

 

A representative from the Chengdu Local Organising Committee added, “It has been a pleasure and a huge opportunity to host these meetings in our city. We are committed to delivering an exceptional event that showcases the best of sport, culture, and our unique heritage. Chengdu is ready to welcome the world in 2025.”
