Chengdu University hosted a team launch meeting on Thursday for its Lacrosse and Flying Disc teams in preparation for The World Games (TWG) 2025 Chengdu. The university’s Lacrosse and Flying Disc teams will select over 20 athletes to the national teams, potentially competing in next year’s TWG in Chengdu. This marks the first time that Chengdu University will have student-athletes representing the country at a major international multi-sport event.

Lacrosse, which will also be featured at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, has seen rapid development at Chengdu University. In August, at the 2024 World Lacrosse Women’s U20 Championship in Hong Kong, China, the Chinese national team achieved its best-ever result, finishing ninth with four athletes from Chengdu University on the roster.

Flying Disc is another strength for the university. In April, Chengdu University signed an agreement with the General Administration of Sport of China to jointly establish a national training team for Flying Disc. During the 2024 WFDF World Ultimate Championships, 15 Chengdu University students were selected for the national team. The university also earned third place at the inaugural Chinese University Ultimate League in 2023.
