Wushu to Make Historic Debut at the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026 and TWG 2025
On 3 December, the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed the events and athlete quotas for the upcoming Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Dakar 2026. In a historic move, Wushu, or traditional Chinese martial arts, will make its debut in the YOG.
This decision aligns with the IOC’s new approach of tailoring the sports programme for each edition of the YOG to “better fit into the local and regional context.” Dakar 2026 will feature 25 sports in its competition programme and 10 in its engagement programme, with Wushu included among the competition events.
Wushu’s inclusion in the YOG marks a significant milestone for the sport, which will also make its debut as an official event at The World Games 2025 Chengdu.
