The 2024 WDSF World Breaking Championships officially commenced on 20 December at the Chengdu Chengbei Gymnasium, China. The event has drawn 185 of the world's top breakers, including several world champions, for an electrifying showdown on this stage.

Among the notable participants are renowned breakers like Qi Xiangyu, Liu Qingyi, Dominika Banevič, Fukushima Ayumi, Andi, and Hishikawa Isshin, as well as Nakarai Shigeyuki, Hiroto Ono, Sya Dembélé, Tsuhako Riko, and India Dewi Sardjoe.

Breaking isn't just confined to the competition arena in Chengdu. On 19 December, Sya Dembélé and her brother, Damani Dembélé, brought their skills to the bustling Chunxi Road, one of Chengdu's vibrant shopping areas. Engaging with the public in true Breaking style, their performance captivated the crowd, showcasing the art form's boundless creativity and energy.

What's the first thing breaking athletes do upon arriving in Chengdu? Visit giant pandas! On 18 December, over 20 competitors toured the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, eagerly snapping photos and videos of the pandas in their natural habitats.

Belgian B-Boy Djibril shared his excitement, "I've only seen a panda once before, and here I'm seeing so many. I like them so much!"

The Championships is also a qualifier for The World Games 2025, where Breaking will once again take centre stage in August next year in Chengdu. The anticipation for another thrilling showdown is already building.
