China’s Liu Qingyi Secures Spot for TWG 2025 with Silver at World Breaking Championships
China’s Liu Qingyi (B-Girl 671) has earned her place at The World Games (TWG) 2025 Chengdu after clinching the silver medal in the women’s event at the 2024 WDSF World Breaking Championships, which concluded on Saturday, 21 December, at the Chengbei Gymnasium in Chengdu.
In the women’s final, the Netherlands’ India Dewi Sardjoe (B-Girl India), who had placed fourth at the Paris Olympics, claimed gold with a 2-1 victory over Liu, the Olympic bronze medalist. Lithuania’s Dominika Banevic (B-Girl Nicka), the Olympic silver medalist, took home the bronze.
On the men’s side, Japan’s Isshin Hishikawa (B-Boy Issin) triumphed over his compatriot Shigeyuki Nakarai (B-Boy Shigekix) with a 2-1 win. China’s Wang Ruimiao (B-Boy Monkey Z) earned bronze for the country’s first-ever medal in the men’s competition at the World Championships.
This year’s World Championships, the first since Breaking made its Olympic debut at Paris this summer, saw 185 athletes from 31 nations and regions compete, with the men’s and women’s winners and runners-up earning direct entry into TWG 2025 Chengdu.
China delivered its best-ever performance at the World Breaking Championships by claiming two medals — Liu Qingyi’s silver in the women’s event and Wang Ruimiao’s bronze in the men’s.
Liu, who had also won silver at the 2022 World Championships, introduced several new elements in her final battle against India Dewi Sardjoe. However, the impact was not as noticeable. Despite missing out on gold once again, Liu expressed no regrets. “Dance is an art form, and I don’t want to always compete in the same way. Only by exploring areas outside my strengths can I truly break through,” said Liu.
Looking ahead, Liu’s focus is now on TWG 2025 Chengdu. She plans to increase the difficulty of her routines to make her movements more fluid and dynamic.
