On 1 January, over 1,300 running enthusiasts gathered at the Tianfu Agricultural Expo Park in Chengdu’s Xinjing District to participate in a lively cross-country race.

The New Year’s Cross-Country Race, a beloved annual tradition now in its 35th edition, has become a highlight for the local community. This year, the event was not only a celebration of the new year but also a way to build excitement for The World Games (TWG) 2025, set to take place in August in Chengdu.

The race spanned a total distance of 3.5 kilometers and featured two main categories: a competitive race and a fitness run. The competitive race was further divided into four groups: adult men, adult women, youth men, and youth women.

Among the participants was Yang Puyu, a local middle school student, who said, “This is my first time participating in the New Year’s Cross-Country Race, and it’s such a meaningful event. A new year means a fresh start, and the atmosphere here is so energetic.”

In line with Chengdu’s efforts to build momentum for the upcoming TWG 2025, the event also featured interactive activities showcasing sports such as Archery, Flying Disc, and Billiards Sports, giving visitors hands-on experiences with TWG sports.
