On the afternoon of 8 February, the sparkling waters of Yazhou Bay in Sanya City, Hainan Province, came alive as over 10 power surfboards carved through the waves. Athletes leapt and sprinted across the crests, their graceful movements seeming to dance in harmony with the ocean. This vibrant scene marked the beginning of an intensive training session for China's Powerboating Team in Yazhou Bay, ahead of The World Games 2025.

The training camp is supported by a team of eight professional coaches and 18 elite athletes, all selected by the China Water Sports Administration. The team has officially set up camp in Yazhou District, Sanya, for a two-week closed training programme designed to enhance the athletes' technical, tactical, and physical capabilities.

Yazhou Bay's crystal-clear waters and consistent wave surges make it an ideal venue for water sports such as surfing and diving, providing an optimal environment for training and international competitions. With an average annual temperature of 25°C and a tropical monsoon climate, Yazhou Bay offers unparalleled training conditions, allowing athletes to acclimatise to the competition climate, familiarise themselves with sea conditions, and enhance their stability and performance in water-based sports.

"Taking advantage of Yazhou's unique marine resources and climate, we are employing a high-intensity, technology-driven training model to comprehensively improve the athletes' performance," said Fan Zhixiong, head coach of the training team. "During this period, we will continue to focus on refining both physical fitness and technical skills. Through tactical drills, competitive training, and technical breakthroughs, we aim to secure a full quota for the qualification rounds."
