On the morning of Thursday, 27 February, 2025, the launch ceremony for the torch of The World Games (TWG) 2025 Chengdu kicked off at Chengdu Tianfu Art Park, China. Representatives from various sectors of society, including outstanding athletes, citizens and international friends, witnessed the unveiling of the first-ever TWG torch.

The ceremony featured Huang Zhangjiayang, a Chengdu-born rhythmic gymnastics group champion at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and Feng Benyuan, one of the torch designers, jointly revealing the historic torch.

The torch named “Zhumeng” homophonically echoes the Chinese phrase for chasing dreams, aligning with the slogan of the torch relay—“Lighting Dreams with The World Games”. Chengdu will also break new ground by staging the first-ever torch relay in TWG history.

The principal designers of the torch, Feng Benyuan and Wang Anxu, are from Jilin University of Arts. Notably, Feng Benyuan was also one of the chief designers of the mascot Shuey Rhon Rhon for the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games.

The design for the appearance of TWG 2025 Chengdu’s torch was selected through a global open call, which received a total of 272 submissions. After evaluations by the public, experts, the International World Games Association (IWGA), as well as the organising and executive committees, “Zhumeng” was chosen as the official torch for TWG 2025.

At the unveiling ceremony, José Perurena, President of the IWGA, delivered his remarks via video, hailing the release of the torch as a historic milestone for TWG movement. He emphasised that this moment holds profound significance for both Chengdu and TWG family, noting the inaugural torch relay would elevate the event’s spirit to unprecedented heights. Concluding with enthusiasm, the president expressed anticipation to join the world this summer in witnessing the most extraordinary Games.

The ceremony reached its sartorial climax as Chinese volleyball star Miao Yiwen, gold medalist at the Chengdu FISU World University Games, joined other Chengdu youth in a dynamic runway showcase debuting the torch relay uniform collection sponsored by Xtep.

As the event drew to a close, a locally crafted anthem Zhu Meng resonated in melodic synergy with the torch. The song, created by scholars of Sichuan Conservatory of Music and Chengdu-based musicians, was brought to life through the impassioned live performance by Chengdu Children’s Choir and Chengdu Robin Chorus.

Chengdu will host the 12th edition of TWG from 7 to 17 August, 2025.
