Chengdu's Running Event Sparks Citywide Fitness Passion

On Sunday 16 March 2025, over 1,000 runners participated in a running event in Sanheyan Village, Yuantong Town, Chengdu. The activity, coinciding with the 271st Yuantong Qingming Temple Fair, featured a greenway cycling challenge, The World Games (TWG) 2025-themed sports tryouts and a rural fair.

 

 

The race comprised a competitive 10km group and a recreational 5km group. Launched in 2019, the series now hosts 10 annual events, encouraging broader community participation in the sport.

 

 

As a prelude to TWG 2025 Chengdu, the activity showcased street dance, Cheerleading, and included hands-on experiences of sports such as Roller Sports, Flying Disc, Kickboxing and Archery (Field), amplifying the TWG 2025 ambiance. It also integrated local cultural performances and a rural fair, boosting agricultural sales and rural tourism consumption. Similar events will roll out across Chengdu in March.

 

 

Such diverse public fitness initiatives aim to increase sport participation, curb rising obesity rates and reduce chronic disease risks, according to a representative from Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Sport.
