The second edition of The World Games Series (TWGS) will kick off on 28 March in Chengdu Eastern New Area. With the event approaching, two key venues—Natatorium and Boules Sports Court of Chengdu Sport University Sancha Lake Campus—have successfully completed renovations, meeting the standards required for hosting international competitions.

Scheduled for 29-30 March, TWGS 2025 Chengdu will feature three sports and four disciplines: Underwater (Finswimming, Freediving), Life Saving (Pool), and Boules Sports (Pétanque). The renovation strictly adhered to The World Games (TWG) standards while catering to TWGS-specific requirements, laying a solid foundation for high-level competitions in the lead-up to TWG 2025 Chengdu.

Inside the natatorium, the spacious and well-lit competition area is already bustling with activity, as volunteers undergo professional training. Covering a total area of 27,700 square metres, the venue can accommodate approximately 800 spectators during the event. Key facilities, including the LED lighting system, electrical equipment, and sound system, were designed as part of TWG planning and are now being utilised in TWGS for the first time.

"Our venue development follows the principle of simplicity and safety. By implementing a two-phase 'TWGS-to-TWG' model, we have avoided redundant construction, saving over 30% in costs and effectively reducing carbon emissions from building materials," said Wang Jinyang, Deputy Director of the Venue Operations for TWGS 2025 Chengdu.

Just 300 metres from the natatorium, the Boules Sports Court spans 4,777 square metres and can accommodate around 300 spectators. "The renovation was highly efficient, and the venue has now reached the official competition standard," Wang noted. Both core venues underwent a comprehensive upgrade in less than a month, including full-scale testing, inspections, and multiple emergency drills.

Lan Renqin, Deputy Director of Venue Operations from Chengdu Sport University, added that, considering the dietary preferences of international athletes, a designated lounge area has been set up within the natatorium. While strictly adhering to competition regulations, the lounge will offer a variety of food and beverages, including snacks and coffee.
