As The World Games (TWG) 2025 Chengdu approaches its opening in less than four months, the Sancha Lake Water Sports VOC is actively advancing the construction of two venues, which is expected to be completed by early June.

The Sancha Lake

The Sancha Lake Water Sports VOC, located in Chengdu Eastern New Area, one of the eight clusters of TWG 2025, comprises two competition venues—Ma’anshan Arena and Taohuadao Arena. It will host four disciplines: Motosurf, Cable Wakeboard, Wake Surf, and Wakeboard.

The arenas are being upgraded with temporary modifications and provisional facilities to match the needs during TWG 2025 Chengdu.

“Our design fully adapts to local conditions, achieving maximum preservation of the original ecology,” according to Wang Fubin, a designer from the Chengdu Architectural Design & Research Institute. The arenas will use the natural water surface enclosed by the islands and lake. Meanwhile, the land areas will employ an innovative adjustable platform foundation system for temporary structures, including athlete lounges and medical stations, replacing traditional concrete or brick foundations. Additionally, the Ma’anshan Planning Exhibition Hall will host press conferences and support venue operations.

In August, TWG 2025 will kick off in Chengdu. Athletes from around the globe will perform breathtaking manoeuvres including spinning, jumping, flipping, wakeboarding and surfing on the waters of Sancha Lake, creating a visual spectacle for both on-site spectators and online viewers. The world can anticipate this extraordinary aquatic sporting extravaganza.
